UFC 117 Preview: Thiago Silva vs. Tim Boetsch

Thiago Silva and Tim Boetsch will fight at UFC 117 in the Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA. The fight will take place on Aug. 7.

Thiago Silva had a great start to his career but has been very disappointing as of late. He started out his career with a 13-0 record, but his last 3 fights have brought mixed results. He was knocked out three fights ago and then he lost his last fight by decision against Rashad Evans. Two losses in 3 fights was much less than Silva would have expected after such a hot start to his career. A win against Tim Boetsch will go a long way towards redeeming him.

Time Boetsch is a solid fighter and has disposed of his last few opponents easily. He has put away his opponents by way of submission and knockout and is ready to take his slot again in the UFC. He spent some time in the UFC previously but he did not succeed the way he would have hoped. After gaining this momentum he will have the chance to redeem himself against Silva.

Each of these fighters has had a lot of success throughout their careers and a win will look good on their resume. Silva has all of the tools but will need to bounce back from this lack of success. He has the abilities to be one of the top fighters.

This fight should be entertaining as each fighter tries to climb back towards the top of the sport.

UFC 117 Preview: Roy Nelson vs. Junior Dos Santos

Roy Nelson will take on Junior Dos Santos at UFC 117. The fight here was originally scheduled to be between Nelson and Cheick Kongo. Kongo was forced to withdraw from the fight with an injury to his back. Dos Santos was an excellent option to plug in to fill the space of Kongo.

Dos Santos is a great, young star. He has been a solid fighter and has shown an ability to put out his opponents early in fights. He has won each of his fights in the UFC and has worked his way to becoming one of the top rated heavyweight fighters in the sport. A win at UFC 117 will go a long ways towards putting him into contention for the championship.

He will have to work for his win. Although Nelson has lost four fights in his career compared to just one by Dos Santos, he is a great fighter.

Nelson is a famous fighter in his own right. He was the winner of “The Ultimate Fighter 10” and has come into the UFC fighting like a mad man. He has won the award for “Knockout of the Night” in both fights that he has taken part in during his tenure in the UFC. Those sorts of performances really get people excited to watch.

These two fighters will probably provide one of the most entertaining fights of the night as they are both great, young prospects. Look for each one to try to show what he is made of as they square off at UFC 117.

Main Event – Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva: UFC 117 Preview

At UFC 117 on August 7, Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen will face off. In August, when they both get on the mat, these two fighters will have everything on the line.

The current Heavyweight champion and UFC betting odds star, Anderson Silva will put his title on the line against Chael Sonnen. When these two fighters take the mat, Anderson Silva will of course be the favorite, as he is the champion, although Sonnen will approach the match with a high level of confidence.

Chael Sonnen is at the highest level of his career to this point, after winning his last three fights. Regarding his abilities and the challenge that he is going to give Silva, he has been putting out statements for the same. For the match, look for this to be a big factor which is getting him ready. To challenge Sonnen and his trash talk, you can expect Silva to come out at his best

Anderson Silva has a 26-4 career mixed martial arts record and he is a great champion. Over the course of his career, he has lost 4 fights, but it has been about 4 years since Silva has lost a fight. To win every fight, Silva is just one of those fighters who can find a way that he enters one way or another.

As they square off, this fight will be in all of the conversations surrounding UFC 117. The winner of this bout will become the new UFC Heavyweight champion.

Lesnar Takes Beating, Still Taps Out Winded Carwin – UFC 116

On Saturday night, if you didn’t walk away from the Shane Carwin versus Brock Lesnar fight asking yourself wondering what just happened, you either aren’t a fan of MMA or you were hitting on the waitress at Buffalo Wild Wings.

It wasn’t worth it, and unless your waitress looked like Arianny Celeste and you sealed the deal, because you missed out on what will probably be the best heavyweight fight this year — a fight that actually lived up to the hype.

Lesnar would only throw two power punches, and the fight would end by submission, but would you have believed it if someone told you a fight between Lesnar and Carwin would last beyond the first round. It wasn’t even Carwin, who was supposed to have an excellent ground game, on top of that, according to Greg Jackson, who got the submission — it was Lesnar

We learned a lot about both of the fighters, in spite of the overall awkwardness of some of the numbers: we learned that Lesnar isn’t completely indestructible, and we learned that Carwin is definitely prone to gassing out.

When Carwin caught Lesnar with a counter right and fought off the ensuing takedown after the fighters felt each other out in the first round, Carwin looked like he had the right game plan. Landing absolute bombs with the referee looking down at Lesnar, who was barely defending himself, and looked very close to turtling up, Carwin capitalized on a Lesnar slip and pinned him to the ground against the cage. Tiring, Carwin had to back off of Lesnar to catch his breath. To go back to ground, he made another short-lived effort and take Lesnar out, but he was too tired, and Lesnar worked his way back up to his feet.

In the second round, Lesnar came out and scored a quick takedown. Into the mount position, he then worked his way and right at the moment everybody thought he would posture up and start smashing Carwin with his 4XL gloves, he trapped Carwin’s right arm against his neck, jumped to the right, and locked in a suffocating arm triangle choke. Carwin hung on for a few seconds before Lesnar made a slight adjustment, sinking the choke in.

With a strong wrestling base in Cain Velasquez, next up for Lesnar is another power puncher. However, Velasquez may even hit Lesnar harder, if Velasquez smells blood in the water he won’t back down. Next up for Carwin, probably a fight that is more about his getting him mentally back on track as opposed to physically. He’s gonna be a handful for anyone in the heavyweight division, if he can learn to pace himself.

Kendall Grove vs. Goran Reljic – UFC 116 – Preview – Middleweight bout

At UFC 116, Kendall Grove and Goran Reljic will fight against each other. On July 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the event will be taking place. This middleweight bout is not extremely exciting in comparison to others that are slated to take place, but you never know what you’ll get in the UFC.

To this point, UFC 116 odds star, Kendall Grove has struggled in his MMA career. He has never been able to perform at the level that he would have liked to, although he has posted an above average record (11-7). His opponent, Goran Reljic, has seen a lot of success, in his relatively young career (8-1-1 career record) and he will be a tough draw for him

For Grove, many people see this fight as a “win or go home” type of match. It is expected that he will lose his spot in the UFC for the time being, if he does not win. That being said, this may not be the most favorable matchup for him. Goran Reljic does not look like a good draw for Grove and he is a stellar standup fighter.

Reljic has produced some submission victories as well, although he is not only a powerful striker. He is a tough fighter to crack because of his well-rounded nature. There will be some questions around him though, as Reljic did not fight for 2 years until fairly recently.

There is still a fight to be fought, despite the feeling that Reljic is the favorite. Many people believe that Grove will come out stronger than most expect him to in this fight and the history and technique of these two fighters will not matter.

UFC 116: Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Stephan Bonnar Preview

In an exciting rematch at UFC 116, Krzysztof Soszynski and Stephan Bonnar will face off. At UFC 110, that went three rounds, these two fighters fought a wild, brutal fight against each other. The problem was that this fight was waved off with a head butt from Krzysztof Soszynski.

Between two competitors that have the potential to be one of the most exciting fights in recent history, this rematch should produce a wild match. Time will tell if recent history plays a part in the outcome of this matchup, even though these two fighters have gone in different directions recently.

Krzysztof Soszynski, UFC odds favorite, has been on a great streak in the past little while. In whatever way he can, he has been finding a way to win matches. Out of his last 8 matches, he has managed to win 7 of them. To continue with the attitude that it is his fight to lose, this sort of momentum can help a fighter like him. It can take away his concerns of his opponent and focus more on what he needs to do to win.

Recently, Stephan Bonnar has been on a bit of a slide. Even in his fight at UFC 110, we have seen what he is capable of in the fight. He battled through that one, but was not able to finish the fight.

Due to a cheap head butt, even though he lost partly, it is difficult to excuse him for all of his past struggles. He will need this one if he hopes to turn around his current trend and he has lost his last three matches.

Main Event – Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin – UFC 116 Preview

On July 3, Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin will square off at UFC 116 in what is expected to be an exciting fight. As the main event in a heavyweight match this fight is slated between two very large fighters.

Lesnar, UFC betting blog star, in his career to this point has only fought 5 career mixed martial arts. To this point in the UFC, he has won 4 out of his 5 matches including a 3-1 record. Lesnar is known for his powerful attack. With huge swings looking for a knockout, he is the type of guy that will come hard and heavy at his opponent. He has such powerful paws that his strikes are known for shattering his opponents.
Out of the two, Carwin is by far the more experienced fighter. In his mixed martial arts career to this point, he has fought 12 fights. The amazing thing is that he has not lost a single fight to this point, including his four victories in the UFC. Because of his experience, he will have the advantage, but he will be in for a tough match against Lesnar.

Nobody wants to underestimate the power of Lesnar, although Carwin is probably the favorite. As we watch these two fighters absolutely duke it out in a brutal manner, this fight could be one for the ages.

The key will be to stay upright. Whichever fighter gets knocked down, you can expect he will get pounced upon with thunderous blows as soon as he is on his back.

MMA – Strikeforce: Robbie Lawler vs. Renato Sobral Review

On Wednesday, June 16th, Strikeforce presented a fight between “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler and Renato “Babalu” Sobral. This was thought to be a classic clash of styles, as Lawler is a striker and Sobral is great on the ground. Instead, it turned in to a stand-up battle that ended with Sobral taking a unanimous decision, 29-28.

In the first round, Sobral managed to take Lawler down twice, but he was unable to keep him there. Once they were back on their feet, Sobral tried to stay close to Lawler by tying up in the clinch. Sobral did a great job varying his strikes, throwing both punches and kicks.

Sobral connected with a hard body kick seconds into the second round. Lawler managed to connect with several hard shots, but Sobral landed a vicious shot to the body that sent Lawler stumbling backward. As the round went on, Sobral continued to work Lawler’s body, mixing up punches and kicks, leaving Lawler’s left side purple.

In the third round, Lawler came out aggressive and looking to finish. He followed Sobral around the cage, looking for a big punch, but he never found it. Sobral nailed him with a few more shots to the body, but Lawler clearly won the third round.

All in all, any MMA fan watching the fight had to be entertained. Both fighters showed up for a war, and they delivered. In the end, Sobral’s footwork and kicks won out, but it was still a great showing for both guys.

UFC 115 Preview: Welterweight bout – Carlos Condit vs. Rory MacDonald

Carlos Condit and Rory MacDonald will fight in a Welterweight bout against each other at UFC 115 on Saturday in Vancouver.

This will be a big fight for UFC115 betting odds favorite, Carlos Condit. He is a former WEC welterweight champion that is trying to return from an injury against Rory MacDonald. Condit was going to fight against Paul Daley at UFC 108, but he suffered an injury to his hand that caused him to head over to the hospital. His laceration sustained a staph infection and left him out of fighting for a while.

MacDonald is more of an up and coming fighter out of Canada. He had his UFC debut in his last fight against Michael Guymon. He was able to beat his opponent in January to win his first UFC match that he was dealt. He is only 20 years old and appears to have a promising career in front of him.

Winning this match will be very important for MacDonald. By beating a former WEC champion he will be able to show the world that he is a contender to be the best fighter out there. To this point in his career he is 10-0. These impressive fights will be put to the test against Condit.

Up to this point Condit has one UFC win, which came in his last fight in September. He was almost shown up by his opponent, but was able to put him out in the end. He has the experience and technique to fight with the best of them.

UFC 115 Preview: Welterweight bout – Paulo Thiago vs. Martin Kampmann

Paulo Thiago will fight against Martin Kampmann in a welterweight fight at UFC 115 this Saturday.

Paulo Thiago has been extremely successful up to this point in his UFC career. He has done this despite being dealt very difficult opponents in each of his different fights. Martin Kampmann can be expected to be a formidable foe for him once again.

In his past Kampmann fought in the 185 pound range. Recently he decided to drop to 170 pounds despite having a great career to this point at 185 pounds. He did suffer a tough loss to Nate Marquardt. He felt that he may be able to improve upon his odds to contend if he were in a lower weight class.

Thiago is known for his boxing, power, and submission already in his young career. His ability to use all of these skills has been impressive. It has helped him to move up the charts very quickly to this point.

Kampmann will have the advantage on the ground between these two. He is more experienced and will be able to show that experience if he can get a takedown against Thiago in this matchup.

If the fight does go to the ground, Thiago needs to take control quickly. He does have great moves, but he will not be able to fend off Kampmann if he is taken down by him during the fight. Each of these fighters is powerful and has the ability to fight standing up. Look for a hard hitting match between these two.
