Hector Lombard has been a destructive force in Bellator’s middleweight division over the last few years. Lombard was born in Cuba and now he splits his time between homes in Florida and Australia, where he trains with the famed American Top Team.

Over the last few years, the knockout artist has been on one of the best winning streaks in the sport, winning his last 20 fights with a stoppage rate of 80 percent during the streak. Fans have been clamoring for Lombard to make the leap into the UFC, after a few years of watching him run rampant on Bellator’s 185-lb weight class. Earlier this week, the Bellator champion validated via Twitter that his subsequent fight will be inside the Octagon.

With only Chael Sonnen having done enough to earn a shot at Anderson Silva’s belt, the UFC’s middleweight division is currently without a true group of contenders. It will be interesting to see whom Lombard will be matched up against in his UFC debut, but with top contenders like Mark Munoz and Michael Bisping already locked into fights this summer.

Compiling a 31-2-1 (1 no contest) record since turning professional in 2004, Lombard has amassed one of the most impressive records in professional mixed martial arts. He has defeated many UFC veterans including Kalib Starnes, Falaniko Vitale, Jesse Taylor, Brian Ebersole, James Te Huna, Jay Silva, Joe Doerksen and Trevor Prangley.

It is hard to deny that Lombard should be considered an immediate contender in the UFC’s talent-laden middleweight division; he has a fearsome reputation amongst his peers and with 17 knockouts and seven submission wins on his record. He has tremendous punching power and equally dangerous as a grappler.

Hector Lombard (31-2-1) went 8-0 with Bellator. The promotion still held the opportunity to match any offer he decided to accept, when Lombard’s Bellator contract expired. Lombard received a sizable deal from the UFC and the promotion had declined to match it, according to Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney.

The belt will now become vacant with the current Bellator middleweight champion now leaving the promotion. Rebney tweeted out that the winner of this season’s middleweight final between Andreas Spang and Maiquel Falcao would face last season’s tournament winner, Alexander Shlemenko for the World title later this fall.

Since November of 2006, Lombard has not lost a fight when Gegard Mousasi topped him via unanimous decision. Currently owned by Anderson Silva and his impressive 15 fight-winning streak, the 34-year-old will be joining a deep UFC middleweight division. Lombard could face many intriguing possible matchups in this division along with a great place to establish his skills and justify that lengthy streak.

Undefeated Travis Browne will get a tough test in the UFC 130 heavyweight bout against Stefan Struve May 28 in Las Vegas.

Browne is a -130 favorite and Struve is a slight +100 underdog in MMA betting lines.

Browne, who is 10-0-1 in his career, is a boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist.

Since debuting in UFC in 2009, Browne has fought two times, beating James McSweeney by TKO on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz finale, and battling Cheick Kongo to a draw at UFC 120. In his career, eight of Browne’s 10 wins have come via knockout. Browne is hoping to rebound from an up and down performance vs. Kongo that saw him dominate the first round before losing steam late in the bout.

Struve represents the most accomplished opponent Browne has faced in his career. Struve, from The Netherlands, is 21-4 in his career and is coming off of two straight wins: a knockout of Christian Morecraft at UFC 117 and a TKO of Sean McCorkle at UFC 124. Struve uses a kick boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu-based style. He has won five fights by knockout in his career.

The heavyweight match will be a contrast in styles. Whereas Browne is a quick-strike fighter who often looks for the quick knockout, Struve is much more comfortable on the mat. Struve has won 14 matches in his career by submission.

Bellator Fighting Championships has signed fast rising Brazilian middleweight Vitor Vianna to its already impressive roster, in its continuing effort to scout and sign the best talent the sport has to offer.

Vianna, born in Brazil, began his jiu-jitsu training at 15. He has become a 2X World Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion, 6X National Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion, and second degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since then. Due to those accomplishments that led former PRIDE Champion and current UFC middleweight Wanderlei Silva to enlist Vianna as the Head Jiu-Jitsu Instructor at Wand Fight Team in Las Vegas.

Vianna will ride a three fight win streak into his to be announced Bellator debut, once beaten in over six years as a professional. In 2006, the only loss of Vianna’s career came, when he suffered a fight ending arm injury against Thiago Silva. Vianna has earned four knockouts in his career, matching his number of submission victories though he is known for his ground prowess.

With the exposure Vianna will get from being seen on MTV2, a stacked middleweight division certainly made the decision that much easier for the ultra competitive Brazilian. Vianna is well aware of the challenges that wait with world class middleweights like Bryan “The Beast” Baker, Russian knockout artist Alexander “Storm” Shlemenko, and Bellator Middleweight World Champion Hector Lombard.

Vianna hopes to take part in an upcoming Bellator Middleweight Tournament where he can earn his shot as he is eager to get his opportunity at the Bellator Middleweight Championship and a fight with Lombard.

For the sixth-consecutive time, UFC welterweight champion St. Pierre (21-2 MMA, 15-2 UFC) will look to preserve his belt against a very frightening opponent in Shields (26-4-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at UFC 129.

Both fighters and their histories will be showcased leading up to their title fight, as with the past Primetime series shows. For Shields, who is one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, this will give great exposure.

Matt Hughes anticipates it to be a straight forward fight for “Rush”. He believes GSP’s going to be able to do anything he wants. He just don’t see Jake being effective or to get on top of GSP. He added that he is without doubt sure that Jake is not capable of bringing GSP down.

For UFC broadcasts, Dana White chimed in on the news of new start times and where the decision for the same had come. The new broadcast time alteration officially goes into effect instantaneously.

On Saturday, April 30, the time change is starting with the upcoming UFC 129 St-Pierre vs. Shields card in Toronto. All pay-per-view broadcasts will start a full hour earlier at 9 pm EST and 6 pm PST, therefore UFC fans in North America need to prepare consequently.

UFC betting lines have received a ton of action these last few weeks. The best odds for Georges St-Pierre are (3/14) and Jake Shields (15/4).

Ross Pearson will fight with Spencer Fisher, in a preliminary lightweight fight airing on the Ion network. This will be Pearson’s fifth fight in UFC.

According to various sports betting sites, MoneyLine odds for Ross Pearson is 1.50 and Spencer Fisher is 2.50.

Pearson is a multi-dimensional fighter who has a black belt in Taekwondo and a brown belt in Judo, as well as a proficiency in boxing and Muay Thai. He suffered his first loss in UFC last September to Cole Miller after being put in a rear naked choke in the second round.

After a unanimous decision victory over Curt Warburton at UFC 120, Fisher is looking to win his second consecutive fight. He is adept at boxing and Muay Thai, with some BJJ mixed in for good measure. He has 24 career victories, with 19 coming through KO or submission. He has six losses, but four of them have come via decision, so he doesn’t get knocked out or submit easily.

With Cole Miller in Pearson’s previous fight, he was really taking it to him, but he got stunned with a punch and that was all she wrote. Fisher has a good stand up game, and if Pearson gets stunned with a punch, this fight will be over quickly. This could be his fight to lose, if Pearson can maintain his aggressiveness throughout the fight, and use good defense.

It’s a tough fight for both men and exactly the kind of match-up Fisher has made his career on; middle of the pack grinds against guys looking to use him as a stepping stone onto bigger and better.

A knee injury has shattered Carlos Condit’s hopes for a fight with Chris Lytle at UFC 127. The injury will keep “The Natural Born Killer” out of action for a minimum of a month. Sportsnet.ca first reported the possibility of the former WEC champ’s withdrawal.

At UFC 119, Lytle’s last fight was a unanimous decision victory over Matt Serra. With his last loss being to Marcus Davis in Januay 2009, Lytle is on a four fight winning streak. Winning “Fight of the Night” on four occassions, “Submission of the NIght” twice and “Knockout of the Night” once, Lytle has taken home UFC bonuses in seven of his last ten fights.

In October at UFC 120, Condit was last seen in action back, where he defeated former title contender Dan Hardy via knockout in the opening round. With his only loss being to Martin Kampmann by way of split decision in his debut, the victory improved the former WEC champ’s record to 3-1 with the promotion.

The veteran comes into UFC 127 enjoying a four-fight win streak, with victories over Kevin Burns, Brian Foster, Matt Brown, and former division champion Matt Serra, While there is no word on whether a replacement opponent has been selected for Lytle at this time.

At Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia, UFC 127 takes place Feb. 27 and airs live on pay per view. The event airs live in the U.S. on Feb. 26 in its normal Saturday-night timeslot, due to the time difference. Between former champion B.J. Penn and perennial contender Jon Fitch a welterweight clash headlines.

The imported featherweight division isn’t getting a lot of love, even on a card that features many of the mid-to-low level talents in the UFC. Canadian striker Mark Hominick (19-8, 5-2 WEC/UFC) hopes to prove he belongs in title contention, in the lone featherweight contest on the main card. He battles The Ultimate Fighter season eight alumnus George Roop (11-6-1, 2-3-1 WEC/UFC). After an impressive knockout win over Chan Sung Jung at WEC 51, Roop aims to play the role of spoiler, along with starting a winning streak.

Picking up three straight wins using exceptional striking technique and speedy footwork, Hominick tore through the competition in 2010. To Hominick’s superior kickboxing and Muay Thai skills, Leonard Garcia, Bryan Caraway and Yves Jabouin succumbed. At WEC 51, despite the split decision judgment, the fight was far from a close affair. On most fan’s scorecards, constant circling, good footwork and wicked counter punching created an insurmountable gap, but poor judging deemed it a razor-thin decision.

Hominick has no regrets about his convoluted journey to a possible championship challenge and he has ignored all the machinations. He said that when it comes to the UFC, he was focused on making a splash with this fight, and that’s the way it’s played out. In his next fight, he will fight for the No.1 contender’s sport.

Hominick and Roop bring similar game plans to the table. Both men’s stand-up tactics are going to be the focal point of this showdown, although they have decent submission games. Time and again, both offensively and defensively, Hominick’s technique has proven that he’s one of the better strikers in the division. Roop did show improvement against Jung, although his footwork is the foundation for his success.

As per the various online betting picks, Hominick seems to be the favorites. The odds for the game stands at -240 Hominick /+190 Roop.
